In multi-story construction, subfloor performance plays a critical role in both fire safety and code compliance. NOCOM® Structural Cement Board is engineered as a durable, structural, noncombustible alternative to poured concrete systems, and has been independently evaluated, tested, and verified for use in a wide range of floor and roof assemblies.

Tested & Verified

NOCOM has been tested and recognized by accredited third-party agencies for use in fire-rated construction:

  • QAI Certified – ASTM E136 (Noncombustibility, QAI B1136-1) and ASTM E84 (Surface Burning, ≤0 Flame / ≤5 Smoke, Class A).

  • UL Classified Assemblies (UL File R39761) – Included in multiple 1- and 2-hour floor/ceiling designs over both wood and steel framing. Assemblies must be built as-tested per UL design requirements.

  • Intertek Acoustic Testing – Independent STC and IIC testing of assemblies with common floor finishes. Results are published in MPI’s Fire & Acoustic Guidebook.

Fire-Rated Assemblies with NOCOM

NOCOM is included in multiple UL Classified floor/ceiling designs, covering both wood and steel framing conditions:

  • UL L528 – 1-hour rating over wood trusses @ 24" o.c.

  • UL L587 – 1-hour rating with toppings over wood trusses @ 24" o.c.

  • UL H514 – 1- and 2-hour ratings over steel C-joists and steel trusses

  • UL L580 – 1-hour rating over MarinoWARE JoistRite @ 16" o.c.

  • UL M527 – 1-hour rating over Sustainable/Supaloc steel trusses @ 24" o.c.

  • UL P569 – 1-hour rating over steel trusses with roof deck

Acoustic Performance

Independent acoustic testing by Intertek has demonstrated STC and IIC ratings of 55 or greater in NOCOM assemblies with common finishes such as carpet, LVT, and ceramic tile.

Field Verification Matters

For assemblies to achieve published fire and acoustic ratings, they must be built as-tested. Customers should:

  • Check the board stamp – Every NOCOM panel carries product identification, including lot information and QAI/UL stamps for traceability.

  • Confirm UL design numbers – Ensure assemblies match the published UL designs.

  • Follow installation requirements – Fasteners, spacing, framing, insulation, and finishes must align with the tested assembly.

These steps ensure that the fire and sound performance demonstrated in laboratory testing is carried through to the job site.

Bottom Line

NOCOM® provides a proven, noncombustible subfloor solution with UL Classified assemblies, QAI listings, and Intertek acoustic testing. Backed by accredited third-party verification, NOCOM delivers confidence that your project’s subfloor system will meet stringent fire and sound requirements in real-world conditions.
